Twitter opened the door to direct donations on its platform this week when it included seven nonprofits in a test of its new “buy” e-commerce button. The seven – 9/11 Day of Service, the Nature Conservancy, Global Citizen, Glide Glaad, DonorsChoose.org, and Product Red – had an existing relationship with the company, but Twitter declined to elaborate to the Chronicle of Philanthropy why they were included in the test.
If opened up to all nonprofits, the “donate” button could become a useful new fundraising tool on social media.
