House Vets’ Affairs Committee Microblogs VA’s No-Comments
No reporter likes it when a federal agency spokesperson refuses to answer questions for a story. The frequency with which Department of Veterans Affairs’ officials do so apparently irks Rep. Jeff Miller, too.
The Florida Republican and chair of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee launched a microblog in late March to track instances in the press when VA officials refused to answer reporters’ questions. Miller said in a release that he hoped the project would encourage the department to be more responsive and transparent with members of the media, who would in turn keep the public better informed about the agency’s performance.
The blog, called the VA Honesty Project, currently documents nearly 70 no-comments dating back two years. The blog links to a stand-alone Facebook page to gather public comments.
